Just plug your instrument into your iPhone or iPod touch with one of IK's instrument interfaces (like iRig 2 or iRig HD), and get ready to be blown away.

You'll be absolutely floored by the sound quality. AmpliTube now uses the same tone technology as the acclaimed AmpliTube 3 Custom Shop for OS X and PC. You'll hear the difference and understand why AmpliTube is an essential for so many professional musicians and recording studios.

AmpliTube gives you 11 creative stompbox effects, 5 amazing amps, 7 speaker cabinets and 2 mics, 1 Loop Drummer groove from the Rock pack and 1 active track in the recorder section. There are also 16 new highly sought after studio mic models available via in-app purchase adding even more sonic richness.

Good at some things, bad at others

At first this app is a blast, especially if you're an Amplitube fan to begin with. I bought this because I enjoyed using Amplitube in its plug-in format. The guitar tones are great, the stock pedals are great- except that you have to buy a "Fender" compressor pedal. You know, that classic "Fender compression" sound we're all looking for! ;-) I've been running this app on my iPod Touch (4th Gen) as an amp modeler, straight into my Mac instead of a plugin -to save on CPU. Works great for that. I would never think of using this live at a gig though! It eats the battery.

The problems start when you purchase the 4-track recorder side of the software. It's horrible. The workflow makes no sense and is totally unintuitive. It's not set up like a standard mixer would be for recording guitar amps in a studio situation- your guitar>pedals>amps>mixer channels, inserts, fx loop, etc.

Instead it's a total mess with the amps being inserted later per dry guitar track (and have to be permanently committed to the track after the fact). Only master fx for all the channels instead of being in a loop for each, strange overload/distorted noises, and a different window for each function (level, pan, amp modeler insert, master fx insert). Bouncing it out as a finished song is a strange process and it always ends up way too quiet. Oh, and the metronome! First off- there's no volume control or other tones for it. If you try to use it during recording it bleeds into your guitar track during the quiet parts. Last but not least- it just runs on it's own, so if you recorded a track to the metronome and want to use it on the next track it doesn't "know" the timing of the other track. You'll never get it to line up! In short, it's not a master metronome that lines up with a master tempo for your song project, it runs independently. Useless!

Use this app as an amp modeler, skip the recorder. Oh, and yeah- it's pretty lame that every little thing is an add-on that they charge you for.
Otherwise I've had very little problems running it on my iPod Touch 4th Gen. Maybe two or three crashes out of 100 uses.

Fantastic app! Everything they said it would be.

I thought it would take a few thousand bucks to get my hands on all those amps and stomps I'd always wanted. Then along comes this app and I'm thinking, is this for real? I went through all the reviews and most of them seemed to know what they were talking about. So .. time to take the plunge .. And I must say: this app is everything they said it would be, and more! Fantastic! I can finally get those sounds I'd always dreamed of. I downloaded the Amplitube, plus the Fender package, plus all the other stomps. Worth every dollar spent. I've played it with earplugs, headphones, mixing phones. I've even connected the iPhone (3GS) to my amp's guitar input. Perfect wailing sound! Bottomline: Why, oh why, didn't I discover this before?

Works like a charm.

Pretty impressive! I'm a pedal junkie so please give me more.
